Preparing for a certification audit

What the certification body looks for

A certification auditor checks that your management system meets the standard and that you actually follow it. They review records, interview staff and observe processes. The key is consistency: what you document, what you say and what you do should all line up across the organisation.

Stage 1 and stage 2 explained

Certification usually happens in two stages. Stage 1 is a readiness check of your documentation and planning. Stage 2 is the full assessment of implementation. Knowing the difference helps you prepare the right evidence for each visit and avoids last-minute surprises.

Closing findings without stress

If the auditor raises findings, treat them as improvement opportunities. Understand the root cause, agree a realistic corrective action and record what you changed. A calm, structured response to findings is exactly what a mature management system should demonstrate.
